MediaTec CEO and President Peter Voss will meet with the FCC to discuss the company’s interest in buying MediaTech, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“The Company and Peter Voll have a mutually beneficial agreement to explore a potential purchase of MediaTEC.
The transaction is expected to close by December 1, 2020,” the filing reads.
“A definitive announcement on the transaction will be made in the near future.”
The acquisition will be the latest in a string of moves by the chipmaker to improve its position in the consumer electronics industry.
Last year, MediaTeg announced a $2.8 billion deal to buy Micron, a company that produces chips for Samsung, and a $3.6 billion purchase of chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices.
Last month, Media t ed announced that it had entered into a merger with chipmaker Qualcomm.
MediaT es deal with Qualcomm is expected in the next couple of weeks.
The filing was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Earlier this year, the chip giant was acquired by a group of Asian investors led by billionaire Tom Perkins, who was the former CEO of PayPal.
Perkins said he would not be involved in the deal.
